I like the header, Brf.

I may not get to the lasies section tomorroe. I'd been hacing problems with disconnects, and thought it was the ISP. This morning I figured out it was my phone line. I can't get a dial-tone.

I'm on mhy mom's computer, with a flat (ick) keyboard that I cna't type on. I've given up tryong to correc the typos. anyhow, since this is my mom's computer mad it's on their pone line, I don't wwant to spend too much time on it.

I called SBC, the automated voice said it'd be fixed by 11:59 pm tomorrow (sunday). We shall see.

Conceptually, I think you are hitting them out of the park.

I like the layout.

But, I think we could refine the artwork.

I'll have to think on it a bit.

Continue to fiddle as you see fit as you are making real progress.

Btw, that's the perfect color for the castle doom name.

Tonight I'm going to begin making an outline for the boards/categories and post them as I go.

So everyone jump in as I list them and comment.

Ok, here's the bare bones of a layout:

A) Info Category:

1) Start Here/Warnings/TOS (locked theads)
2) Forum Commentary/Help/Announcements
3) Ranks and Awards

B) Entertainment:

1) Games*
2) Tropico
3) Rpgs*
4) Media*
5) Literature
* = Can be split up into multiple categories if one subject gets popular.

C) Discussion:

1) General Chat
2) Debate
3) Tech Board
4) Ladies Board**
5) Forum Court**
6) Forum archives (locked threads)
** = Defined user group

Ok, that's a start. Jump in with board names that sound appropriate to the theme or board ideas. I intend to keep the boards loosely defined until something becomes so popular that it needs to be broken out into its own board. The user defined boards will be limited to admins and allowed members. That's right, ladies, only Brf and I will be the only males able to access your area. And the Forum Court will be similar to the Ribbons Club of LS.

For the Women's area, how about Queen's Chambers?

I'm still not comfortable about having a segregated area, but would rather see an area for "gentler" conversation and domestic topics that all can discuss. The key would be that if something is posted in this area, it would be an uspoken cue that raw jokes on the topic would be inappropriate in that area. If you just have to make the jokes, go to the general chat area.

Cool names should be fairly easy too come up with.

General Chat could be "The Great Hall"

"The Battle Zone" Seems appropriate for debate.

"Mengel's Labe" for the Tech board. But then again a board named for Mengel might wierd people out a bit.

Archives could be "The Trash Compacter" Or "The Dungeon" Or "The Crypt" Somthin' like that.

Just some ideas from the Lowly CooJoe

Name is fair for the board. Not exactly catchy, but I can't come up with anything better myself. If the herd can't come up with anything flashier then we'll go with it.

What's wrong with a private board?

I'm sure the guys don't mind and it is something way overdue.

Every forum this crew has been on has pissed off all the girls at one point or another. And we lugs have had to go make nice, as we should have, but it still took time for feelings to get better.

Furthermore, I've finally got a site where we don't have to tip-toe around family rules. Other than nude graphics, the f-bomb and s-bomb words there will be little restrain other than respect to each other. I expect the place to get mildly raw at times. All the more reason for a polite board for the gals.

Let's give it a spin and see how it works out.

I would call it the "powder room", but that would defeat the purpose of avoiding crudeness Very Happy
I dont know if there would be much demand for a female-only board.... considering how many are in our group. A "friendly" board might not be too bad though.

Nibby, Mel, Tish, and Jorenne constitute a sizeable minority of our little group.

And there may be more in the future.

It might be a draw as well for the future.

Like I said, we'll give it a trial run and see how it goes.

I've never been shy about dumping slow boards anyway.

Are Mel, Tish and Jorenne able to see this board? I'd like their opinions on the idea of a Women's section.

Wow! Four females, quite a number.

I think the idea of a females section is good, Sometimes there's just no substitue for a girly chat Smile

Just drop her a note at estioland.

Now while I've been wrong before, I'm guessing she will really appreciate the ladies area considering her occasional comments on the guys' crudeness.

Actually, it was Tish who I originally concieved the special board for. While no shrinking violet herself, she has been around this group since the early CT days and has endured tons of testosterone laced behavior that has put her off at times. This behavior has sent her and other girls away from the forum for a hiatus........occasionally for good for some of the gals.

A ladies board will give them a place to ignore us idiots while we clean up our acts without them having to actually leave the forum. As a bonus, it will give them a place to post topics that are guaranteed to be abused by the boys with cracks and puns that the girls would rather be serious about.

Fair enough. To mis-quote the song, I'm not world's most feminine gal. I know I'm not the one to be held as an example. I wanted to be sure that the rest of the distaff crew felt this would be a good thing.

Hey, our girls aren't part of the rank and file of the female gender.

Our girls are tough. Cool

But there is a difference between tough and being crude. The latter just part of the general makeup of males. We are a bit more restrained in RL when the actual female is in our presence, but lose it online because we get caught in the moment and don't notice the girls are around. But because it is in public print, the girls don't have to be around that moment to be offended later when they finally read it.

Onto other matters, I haven't seen much comment on the forum layout outline.

Only name suggestions (which we do need, thanks) so far.

Are there any comments on the actual layout?

Well, not really, but I'm no good at stuff like this anyway. Besides I just got Sims 2 (and you should all know how into Sims 1 I was) So I'm probably going to be buried in that for a few days anyways.

Crap! I added some new boards, but can't generate a new category.

I went to the management page and every time I hit add a category it tells me that I can't add a category without a name. Of course, it doesn't ask me for a new name either! Rolling Eyes

See what you can do, Brf

Oh, and the f-bomb and s-bomb words are now locked out and have substitutions.
