Do you have what it takes to survive as a dictator?
Test your skills at:
DICTATOR
The greater your popularity, how longer you stay in power and your greed... determine the score.
It is based upon an old C64 game. |

I seem to remember playing such a game on the old Commodore Pets. Those were even before the the C64s. |

It's possible... I read that the game was originally published in 1983.
A search using "dictator, dktronics" revealed a number of sites with info.
I saw a couple of sites that offered the programming as a down-load. |

Yeah. Thats what the site said. The other game I was thinking about was more economics based than military popularity, like this one is....
By the way, is there any way to please the Lefties? |

I don't know yet... still trying different combinations for the best results.
Mostly, I end up dead... after a revolution
Hey, have you been able to get an American aid?
I'm starting to think... that this is bugged. |

I've been discussig Dictator with the gentleman... that is hosting and developing it.
His last e-mail to me was of interest:
Quote: Feel free to make some suggestions, that way I'll be more likely to update it :-)
Probably won't happen 'til the summer though, too busy at work at the moment.
Noel
If anyone has suggestions... contact Noel with them.
Or, post it here and I will forward it to him.
I'm working on something that I call the [i]brother-in-law[i/].
Whenever El Prez bought or sold something... there would be the option to embezzle part of it.
Also, the current methd of stealing monies for your Swiss bank Account... are to harsh.
Present the player with several percentage options... to decide upon. |

| Ahhhhahahahaha! I am the best dictator! 27 months with almost 2 million in my swiss bank account before someone finally assassinated me (I'd totally run out of options to raise money and the country went bankrupt). Go look at the top scores :P |

Oooh...I beat my score. 35 months with 2.6 million in my account :D
The secret...is to cut your costs ASAP: first turn, rent a base to the russians, second turn cut spending on the secret police. Accept all offers to cut s.p. funding or start public lotteries, refuse all offers that require increasing monthly costs or that piss off the russians. Then, hold out for as long as you can before asking the russians for a loan (and don't steal any money yet!). This time period is tricky because you can't get s.p. reports, and you have to avoid getting killed. Track who your most powerful ally is (sometimes it's the leftotans) to put down rebellions--you may put down 5 or 6.
Once you get aid from the russians, you don't have to worry about them liking you anymore--buddy up to the americans. You'll want to increase spending to the s.p. in this period, once you can't take it anymore (they come back with 8 strength, so they're great for putting down rebellions). Then, just last as long as you can again. Once everything goes to pot and you have no more options to increase your popularity (or if monthly expenses >50k), start taking money for your account. Then get aid from the americans (again, the longer you wait and the better your relations with them, the more cash you get--in my last game I got just over a million from the russians at about month 13, and about 1.7 mil from the americans around month 26). Now, steal as much as you can until the country goes bankrupt, and then just wait for someone to assissinate you :-)
My 20 cents. 8) |

Yeah, I will definately pass that suggestion on to Noel.
I'm thinking some new groups/factions are needed.
This would mean some new monthly audience requests for the new factions.
Also, new actions (what you call "offers") will be required... for existing groups and any new ones.
I'm leaning towards the... Workers and the Industrialists.
IMO, a new faction labeled the Church is a good candidate.
Keeping the Russians... dates the game.
I would drop them and add a new external group know as the OAS (Organization f American States).
Another solution may be replacing the Russians... with the Cubans. |

For a couple of years, I have been searching for the expanded
and updated version of this game... SimJunta.
Today, I found where it can be downloaded from and added to
your PC.
http://files.filefront.com/SimJuntaexe/;9990589;/f
This is not an internet game, but one that is played on your PC. |
