For all you Civ fans (basically meaning you're a 4x gamer), it is finally there!

Galactic Civilizations 2: Dreadlords.

w00t!

Civ in Space, the actual heir to Master of Orion (you don't know that title? Shame on you).

Diplomacy in uberform, customizable shipdesign, exploration extraordinair.

I'm getting it tonight!

Is it turn based or real time?

Never mind. I just read about it. It is indeed turn-based. I'm very tempted to get this, but I'll wait and see what anyone here says. I can't read many reviews since work is blocking a lot of "non-mission related" sites.

Sounds nice. I'll get it, but much later. My Oblivion arrives in a few days.

Newsflash:

Game is quickly heading towards my favorites.

You name, you can design it. The shipdesign feature is worthy of being a stand alone game. You want a Voyager? A Star Destroyer? A Scorpion thingy lookalike? Name it, it's possible. To illustrate: In the beginning you can choose between 5 different hull types, each with an amount of connection "dots" on which you can mount structures/weapons/engines/modules/etc.
Weapons, etc. cost "ship points", meaning a certain amount you can spent on special things. Structures aren't counted as points, so you can infinitily keep building out your ship...

With all technology, you can choose between 5 racial class kind of ships, each holding around 20 different hulls, 70+ structures (additional wings/blocks/other fancy lookings stuff), 70+ different weapons, and that amount of different modules & engines, etc. It's sick.

As for the game, Master of Orion / Alpha Centauri fans will recognize it immediately with small differences but an overall great interface.
The game holds 1 Campaign (meaning a story mode) + the normal "generate a map" idea with 12 (! omg) different difficulty levels with SIGNIFICANT difference between them. Only no multiplayer.

It's great. If I'm not here for the following days, I'm probably using my fleet of Space: Above & Beyond enemy fighter / Star Wing / Star Wars hybrid force mounted with Black Hole Guns to pound the crap out of some race that thinks running to the United Planet Council for help will save their hide.

The fools.

Given my perverse nature, I remembered this thread when hunting Amazon and found the original game still-in-the-wrapper new for $9 and bought it.

So my review will be for the first version when I get it.

My friends and I are still playing Master of Orion on occaision at our gamefests. Lately it's been too buggy to play so we're looking for something better, with multiplayer. Any suggestions?
