Has anyone been successful finding copies of the caricatures found in Danish newspapers? I can't find them, save one.

After all the hooting and hollering, one ought to have the right to see it.

you'll find them here, along with some reactionary cartoons

I'll war you that the website is a *wee* bit on the non-objective side (and I say that with all due sarcasm)

Ok, as long as we don't get into the ramification of said cartoons then the thread can stay here in the public board.

But any philisophical commentary and this this goes immediately into the debate board.

While I have no objection to that happening, I just want to keep the controversy in a place with proper bumpers.

For a few days I had a difficult time finding the cartoons using google search. How did you guys find all this?

I have heard that a bunch of folks are in hiding, having a fatwa on their heads. Including the cartoonist.

Running the risk of having this moved, I would just like to point out that a fatwa can only be called by an established religious official. The terrorists groups cannot do it, heads of state cannot do it (Theocracies not withstanding) and certainly a pissed off mob cannot do it

But any religious official can do it.

Any mullah with a chip on his shoulder. There might be a half million mullahs on earth. Remember that Islam has almost no hierarchy to police themselves. No Pope in Rome for them, you know.

Imagine if we allowed any preacherman in America to declare a death sentence upon whomever they choose and it be the law.

And yes, it's time for the move.

I was just watching The Daily Show and the "moment of Zen" at the end was footage of a guy reading off some protest to the comics. The guy next to him starts shooting off the AK-47 he is holding in agreement and every single casing that is ejected bounces off the first guys head

it was priceless

On another forum (Yes, JJ, I'm cheating on you...), someone posted the following:
FYI: I heard on NPR today (2/7) in an interview with a major US newspaper foreign correspondent that the cartoons that raised the roof (or are bringing it down) are not the ones published (in September), but several of a portfolio done (and not made public) as a request from an editor. There was mention that one one the offending cartoons had Mohammed with a pig (4-legged) and others quite repulsive. These made into the hands of some clerics whom took them back to Sandland to stir up resentments.

For what its worth....
I'm doing some research into that, I wanted to post a confirmed source here.

From one source (NeanderNews), there's a picture of a man wearing pig ears and nose (fake) participating in a French pig-squealing contest. He has sufficient facial hair that the B&W rendering of the photo in a newspaper COULD be taken as a caricature of Muhammed/Mohammad (or however his name is spelled this week), kinda like looking at clouds or water stains and seeing anything from a map of Norway to a religious figure.

The NPR website has clips (no transcripts that I could find) that probably have more info.

Yes, I saw that. The picture was something. So ridiculous. That was probably used often in the Arab world.

It's tragic, I think. Before 9/11, the best evidence that Islamic fundamentalists could point too, of the West's intent to corrupt and destroy Islam, was Western support of states like Russia and Isreal, which are at war with Islamic populations. Now, it's looking an awful lot to the man-on-the-street in the Middle East that Europe is attempting to oppress its own Islamic population, with a smear campaign (this latest controversy, bans on religious symbols in schools (France's controversy with burkas), the reaction to riots in France, not to mention all the circumstances that triggered the French riots.

The middle east has been a powder keg for years. Now the barrel has spilled over into Europe and there are sparks flying everywhere

With all the componants currently in play, its not gonna take something big to set it off

and the situation seems to be bordering on the ridiculous. an iranian newspaper is runnign a competition for holocaust cartoons and telling western newspapers to run the cartoons as wewll. now, I believe in free speech and freedom of the press, but I personaly believe that to be going too far ( if it was caricaturing a religious figure, though, I wouldn't mind, as that would simply be them getting their own back by caricaturing the same thing, jusdt in reverse), as the holocaust was an actual event, documented in history. also, I think SOME people are deliberately trying to inflame the situation. personally, I think everyone involoved needs to calm down, maybe if the islamic population realise that the cartoons were MEANT to be an exaggeration, for humor, not to actually be taken as true, and for the iranian newspapers not to use this as an excuse for holocaust denial.

I was listening to Michelle Malkin doing an interview on talk radio. She had put up those Danish cartoons on her own website when it started to become a topic. Well, you know all the death threats and problems she got from doing that? She had to contact the FBI to investigate it.

There have been other things, including every possible attempt to sabotage her site, clog it up so that it is not accessible.

Other smaller and lesser sites who dared to publish or present the twelve or so cartoons have been dealt in a worse manner. They have been defaced, some IPs tracked, and everything else.
