Fave movie?
The Matrix!
Just wonderfully entertaining.
Not nearly as interested in Reloaded and Revelution (Revolation ... whatever it was, exactly), but the original was fabulous! |

I like TLD, too.
I still think that SPR portrays the Normandy landings in a more realistic style.
Picking my Fav War Movie was very hard... there are several that I really like.
Gallipoli --- WW1 Aussies
The Horsemen --- WW1 Aussies
Lawrence of Arabia --- WW1 Brits & Arabs
All Quiet on the Western Front --- Lew Ayers version
Gettysburg --- best ACW ever made |

SPR is a great movie, and definantely more for the gritty realism of the Omaha landings, the journey through the french countryside, and the battle for that french village.
But it doesn't have the scope of TLD, which covers the whole battle, not just one little squad. TLD tells you a story, and from multiple perspectives, shows you the feelings of the men, and throws in a whole load of humour, that SPR just doesn't have.
Thats why its my choice.
Some other close contenders, were Patton and Battle of Britain. |

What is "favorite"? The movies you watch whenever they're on, ones that you can sit and recite the dialog with the movie? Tremors series, Critters series, Green Berets, Nightmare on Elm Street series, Under Siege 1 & 2, M*A*S*H, Alien(s) series, If Looks Could Kill (I am the French teacher!), Adventures in Babysitting, Holiday (Hepburn and Grant), Desk Set (Hepburn and Tracy), To Have and Have Not (Was you ever bit by a dead bee?), African Queen...
If you want the more highbrow response regarding acting, writing, direction, etc., there is one movie that I feel deserved every award possible, Schindler's List. However, I saw it only once, and as long as I can bring to mind scenes from it, I will not watch it again. |

I hve to agree with Nibbs... Schindler's List was one powerful movie. I think it should be part of all schools curriculum.
Another one that I had not thought of at first... Michael Collins. Watching it gets my blood a-boiling. |

Excellent recommendations.
Michael Collins wasn't a great movie as much as how it drew you into the protagonist so completely. Made you want to grab a pistol and charge off to Dublin.
Schindlers List is just an amazing movie.
And thanks for mentioning Tremors, Nibby. I loved the first one. A movie made with scrap props and terrific acting and fun.
While I don't have a favorite movie from the classic era of '40 to '60, I love them all. Great for late night and a warm drink. |

We did it as a film study.
Another favourite movie of mine, was Remember the Titans.
Quote: The Hunt for Red October
I preferred Patriot Games over Red October - I thought they did a terrible job of book to screen with Red October, not that it was much better with Patriot Games - but it was far better than Clear & Present Danger. Though i'm probably one of those people who dislike movies from books I like :)
The best Clancy movie would have to be Without Remorse (if they ever make it). The emotional torment of loosing his wife, then loosing his girlfriend who helped him recover from his wife's death, all set against the prostitution, drugs, gritty urban environment, as John Clark goes on his personal vendetta. Contrast and compare that with the Vietnam angle (the POW camp and the attempted rescue. The Wild Weasel vs the SAM would also fulfil the audience need for fast moving objects and explosions), and you have a very powerful, stirring movie.
Provided they cast someone decent for John Clark of course. Most Hollywood actors these days have no facial expression.
Btw, no-one mentions Star Wars or LOTR? I personally don't like them that much, but you can't have a fav movie list anywhere, without someone mentioning them :o |

I have not seen that yet...might be one I wait on for the DVD.
We started to go see Meet The Fockers on Sunday, but it was so crowded we ended up going shopping instead. |

I love movies. In fact I love movies so much I watch the same ones over and over again. I know - I do seek professional help!
I saw Meet the Fockers and it was good. Now the original I cannot rewatch. It is a great movie but it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO hard to relive the slapstick. It's AGONIZING. I could see the sequel again with no problem. So you be the judge.
I just saw the Aviator. A definite must. There's some good drama for those Rand/anti-government types, if the historical topic doesn't do it for you to begin with. He was larger than life and he should be remembered for his contribution to society, his tenacity and his courage.
I tivo'd Dr. Strangelove or why I stopped worrying etc... and got to watch that a handful of times last month. I first saw that in my early 20's. I couldn't appreciate it then, but being older and living in a post 9/11 world, it's pertinance struck a chord with me.
Plus I have a grudge against George C. Scott, as he is the indian that tried to kill Drew Barrymore in Firestarter. I have a hard time getting over movie grudges. I still have barely forgiven Danny Glover for treating Whoopie so badly in The Color Purple. I'm pathetic, I know I know, like I said, I am receiving treatment.
Some movies require reviewing to work with me. Primarily because I have trouble decoding non-verbal cues. However the following are movies I wanted to see again and again as soon as I saw them.
The Ring
12 Monkey's
Fight Club
Rushmore
Donnie Darko (no matter how hard I tried not to!)
The Terminator
T2
Fifth Element
Braveheart
Gladiator
Howard's End
Room with a View
The Remains of the Day
Saving Grace
Though some movies I hate and then realize I love. The English Patient is the only one that springs to mind. The sexual tension in that movie is the most powerful I think I've ever witnessed. |
