Ok, summer tv is usually crap. Why do you think Big Brother is on its umpteenth summer season? Worse is that I occasionally watch it because I've literally seen everything else.

Then one night a month ago, I got lazy about channel surfing (Iwas pooooosting!) and left it on CBS.

This show comes on about INXS making a reality show to find a new singer for the band.

Oh, I was sooooooo ready to curse at the stupidness of it all.

I was dead wrong! This show has been jammin' great rock tunes 3 nights a week for a month!

This is no Idol show. These singers have serious talent.

As the band rightly said, the difference between a pop star and a rock star is 100,000 screaming fans in a sweaty summer stadium! Nice line there, imo.

They really put these singers through the paces and give them a great cover band to work with. They have to organize the jam sessions with the band and rework all the songs to fit their presentation. These singers aren't just frontmen. They help write, compose, and organize the show before stepping out in front.

You know, they put Brooke Burke in as MC to entice the boys to watch the show. Now she's just in the way. This show is a lot better than just tuning in to see a hottie. At least they got Dave Navarro, the guitarist of Jane's Addiction and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to help them judge the contest. He's a class music act.

In what little I've seen of the Idol series, you are lucky to get one honest music star out of the whole contest. I fully expect to see over half the INXS contestants to end up in front of a serious band or do great headlining solo. The pool is about halfway down now, but the ones that have already left were real real good.

Did you know that the tracks from the show are already selling as downloads? And selling well too. These contestants are earning royalty money even during the contest.

This show is a real sleeper hit. If you like to rock then catch this show. Whomever is left standing at the end will certainly help the return of INXS. I'll definitely be ready for that new album when it comes out.

What?!

This thing is showing in every English speaking country and several others.

It just keeps jamming.

Might as well watch it if you like to rock. This isn't going to be the beginning of some long series of reality shows. One run and it's over.

You've missed 80%, but there are 2 more weeks (4 shows).

Cripes, folks, you've already missed the best rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody I've ever heard. Yep, even better than Queen's version.

It's baaaaaaack! :P

This year it's for a new band called SuperNova that Tommy Lee is starting up.

Damn! Couldn't they drum up a decent band? :?

After seeing David Lee Roth mince around on Jay Leno in redneck garb doing a jug and fiddle band rendition of Jump then you might think Van Halen just might be needing a new front man, right?

(Let me tell you that after seeing Roth do the queer trailer trash waltz that I felt real old!)

I wasn't sure about INXS at first, but seeing them give rock solid guidance to the last set of prospects, I was sure of a good season.

Is Tommy Lee actually capable of worldly advice? Or even a complete and coherent sentence?

Will we get the same old house band? Damn, but they could jam! 8)

Well, I've got my fingers crossed. With rap, country, and latino music rising so fast, we need a beacon of good rock to encourage a resurgence. I was seeing so much good street talk last summer about rock music in general that I was hoping for a new wave of great hits. Sadly, it wasn't enough. But if they can string several good summer runs together then you will see the teens chasing the sharp upstart bands again. When the kids chase the bands then the genre grows strong. I want to hear about kids starting garage bands that piss off the neighbors with loud riffs instead of testing new rap and reggaetón lyrics with their buddies on the bus ride home from school.

I see the success of this run based on the lack of a Pamela appearance. She seems to show up when Tommy Lee needs a boost. :?

Anyway, the first network broadcast is July 5th on CBS.

The line up for Supernova is slightly imprevisve... I mean Metallica, Guns 'n Roses, and Motley Crue... but expect for Tommy I didn't know the other names.

While Tommy Lee, if he wants to, can be very entertaining, he needs to learn to wheel back some of it to make it seem more of a Rock Icon than a Rock fumble.

I just noticed if you do read the site for Supernova, Dave Navaro is gonna be back, which f'ing rocks. I loved Dave in Rock Star: INXS, and hopefully he'll be able to make the show as enjoyavble.

With Tommy Lee as he is let's hope he can give as good advice as INXS did, and if he can't let's hope the two other guys can... cause that was one thing I liked about the show was even though I wasn't an INXS fan, I apreciated there ability to help the kids on the show, kids.. heck they were all older than me but 2... but now i'm rambling.

In contrast to many RHCP fans, I do find the One Hit Minute album a great album.

As for the show, didn't see it :/

Sad thing is I wasn't into music in the mid 90's, so when that CD came out I never got to hear, and RHCP of now refuse to play any One Hot Miniute songs, guess i'm gonna have to search some time to find the cd.

My review has some surprises.

On the whole, the women were far better than most of their male counterparts.

Of the men, there were only two that impressed me with their first performance and those two were formidable. But the rest were downright bad in their first showings. Really bad.

Of the women, it was only degrees of quality. All were competent and much more refined than their male opponents. These gals were burning down the house.

If the Supernova band members were secretly hoping to get a male front singer then I highly recommend they rethink their priorities. The only two good males definitely have what it takes but they might simply get mowed down by a barrage of girl power over these next two months.

As for Tommy Lee, I was surprised that he had some intelligent comments for the contestants. The trio has also added another reviewer, besides Dave, to help them. They enlisted their future producer to sit with the gallery. He seemed pretty sharp. So I might be pleasantly surprised (crossing my fingers) at the quality of the review process that I was certainly dreading before.

And did I mention that last year's cover band is back? 8)

Over all I could only think of one girl that was just god awful, the one who did the Evanecence cover... there were some girls that could have picked slightly better songs for there style of voice, but they still wern't bad. One that comes to mind is the girl who did the Nickelback song, she wasn't a bad singer, just that song didn't help her much.

As for the guys, over all most were imo average at best, I remember 2-3 I thought could do well... but like you said over all the girls beat the guys. There was only one guy I thoyught sucked, but the rest just didn't pick songs that helped them at all... they were trying to do to much I feel.

Lordy, the guy who sang Roxanne should have been shot on stage for butchering that song so bad.

That's the one guy I was thinking of that did god awful, the guys I liked were the Iceland guy, while I do agree with what they said on his stage presence, I keept laughing cause it seemed so odd, but the song was good and his voice was too, then the guy who did the Black Crows song I loved, diffrent but I still thought he was very good. The last guy who did Billy Idol Rebel Yell was good too.

One women I loved and yet thought was odd was the one who did Nirvana's Lithium. She sang it very well, then she decided to do really odd stuff, that just seemed whacked out for me.

The guy who got sent home was one of the few males who I thought had talent. It was the other two I thought were ripe for eviction.

Why was he sent home, I wondered?

Then it hit me. The other two were just bad performances, but they listened to the reviewers suggestions and responded. While still bad, they got better.

But the guy who went home didn't respond to the band's advice and did yet another tame song. He didn't follow their suggestions. Defiance is rarely a habit that endears you to your critics.

Yeah when the guys tell you to go harder, don't pick duran duran...while he did a good job on the song I thought, made it harder, did what he said he would, when they ex Motley Crue/Methods of Mayhem member, Metallica, and Guns 'n Roses so go harder, they mean harder.

Ozzy, Steppenwolfe, Led Zeppelin would have been good or even more modern harder bands like Staind or Tool or Godsmack, though not sure his voice would have worked for any of those bands but you get my drift. There is dozen of bands that had a harder feel than Coldplay and Duran Duran.

The guy who did Roxanne did a WHOLE lot better with LA Woman, I mean it was like a total 360 with him. I was ashamed of the other guy with Switchfoots Stars, but Tommy and them seemed to like it, even though he sounded worst of all to me.

You can bet the two that remained won't last long anyway.

They have no vocal range at all.

I was looking at the guy who sang LA Woman. He was too comfortable with that song so early in the contest. He obviously was used to singing it often in the past. That means he played one of his "aces" to stay alive. Bet he doesn't have many more aces with that vocal range.

Singing a Jim Morrison song well isn't hard. Jim was really more of a poet/songwriter than a true singer. Jim was flamboyant, emotional, and sung from the heart, but his vocal range was pretty damn small really.

So while he did good with that Doors song, that doesn't mean he's a good singer.

The other guy just didn't embarrass himself.

I figure both to be gone by the halfway point.

well on the last one there was about 5 on the bat I felt needed to leave, and that is about the same here too, by week 6 we should start to have to things happen, 1) the ones with real talent should be there hopefully and it should get really good, and 2) People will already have their favioretes.

Till then we just gotta get rid of the fat, and hope some that may end up being really good if they lasted longer don't get the axe.
