Ok, I thought I would start a little thread inquiring as to what page you see when you first fire up that browser. I don't think Junta Joe will mind too much if you don't say Castle Doom (although I've been wrong before!) as long as you get here.

I've used http://www.broadbandreports.com as mine for years now. For those of you that know me, you know why. If you don't know me, well you're probably better off... hehe :P

Actually, I've alway been active there in distributive computing and have worked for both a major phone and cable company in the past so I give what little help I can in those boards there too.

Well, where do you go when you first fire up that browser?

I do use the my.yahoo.com for a lot of headlines in news and sports, not to mention I play a lot of their fantasy sports games. But it's just bookmarked, not home.

I use my Earthlink home page that gives me access to all kinds of things.

For news, I have it set to: US, International, Political, Business, Local, and Technology.

I also have Yellow Pages, local weather, and stock market ticker added.

Earthlink then adds various sales and service links of all kinds of varieties. Then it has the links to my account areas and webmail.

I like the latter as an early filter. I don't have to "bring" my mail onto my pc. I can sort through all of it and report my spam while whittling it down to the few real mail pieces. Then I read the fast stuff and discard those too. The few pieces of mail I want to keep then can be downloaded into my IE Outlook Express on my pc.

So essentially, I have my news/information and my mailbox as my homepage.

This way I don't blunder around uninformed all evening when I log on.

This may be my website, but it is not my homepage. Nor do I have my mail addy here either.

But I have to admit hearing of other people, Georgie, that have Google as a homepage. Even one of my sisters has it.

I use blank, first, then launch either the morning set (NoKidding board, Excite, Nationstates, Trivia, tv listings, Jokeaday.com) or the afternoon set (NoKidding, tvlistings, Castle doom, one of my euchre leagues, and the Joke A Day forums). In the morning, when I'm done with JAD I go to the JAD forums in that tab, after the tv listings I hit Estioland, and after trivia game (about a minute), I come here.

Firefox and tabbed browsing are wonderful.

Nibby that could fill a whole day.

I personally use Google. I spend a lot of time searching and it is just easier to hit home then to type google.com every time.

I used to drop by Nationstates too until my pc took too long at the shop and I couldn't rescue my account in time. :(

I should have put my account on sleep mode, but totally goofed that idea.

Yep, today I allowed my nephew to add the Firefox browser to my pc. I still have IE as my primary until I get used to this new thing, but give me a little time. It appears that Firefox is a much more stable browser. I'm used to IE, but I think it is getting dated and saddled with too much Microsoft headaches.

MS just never learns. Instead of fully finishing Longhorn to get it stable, they are going to foist Longhorn Light (Vista) on the market just to make that fast buck for their quarterly earnings statement.

You mean just like they did with Windows ME? That was a mistake and it looks like they're bound to do it again.

I use Firefox as well. In a lot of ways it's a better browser. I think it's more secure than IE ever will be. Say no to IE and yes to Firefox!
