some of my favourite words (degree in english - bear with me)
and yes i know some of them are very short but underused in my opinion
thou - how did this word die out? you is so crass in comparison
in fact shakespearan english should be brought back completely, i think romeo and juliet illustrated that it can still be sexy
more of my favourite words
eloquent
illustrate
luscious
illuminate
and if i am allowed to use words that are not in english then naïve, doppelganger and fyrtifyra |

My new favourite word: Orphic
It's an adjective, meaning mystical, entrancing, fascinating, etcetera.
An example is 'She had an orphic singing voice'.
It comes from the name of the Greek musician Orpheus, whose lover died and went to the underworld. Orpheus went to play for Hades so that he would release her. Hades said he would, as long as Orpheus never looked back on the return journey. Orpheus didn't look back, until the last boat ride across the river Styx, where he saw his lover become a ghost and be forever trapped in the underworld. Poor guy. |

Charon the ferryman who carries shades across the river Styx. And Elysian Fields the paradise in Hades where heroes go when their time has come.
Hellebore, henban, aconite -- rue these, forever thou shalt eschew...and Eros being the deadliest of them all. |
