The 40's? No. I don't like Big Band music or Swing. But you may see a bit of the early Blues offerings show up worth listening to.
I'm not a fan of the 50's either, but it still interests me enough because it is where the roots of rock and roll ultimately lie. I listen to it more of an intellectual pursuit. Though you may find the blues offerings of that early period a bit more entertaining than the popular faire. Also the "Lounge" act music aren't bad either and are hitting a current revival lately.
The 60's are when an old rock and roller, like myself, hits his stride. Plenty of great music to be found. |

| I'm not an old Rocker, a younger rocker who just loves all decades, usally, some 80's stuff i'm still iffy on. And like Joe said 50's have the roots, buddy holly, the big bopper. Elvis of cours,e lots of influence can be found in that decade. |

All those famous guys from the 50's rock scene took their cues from Blues music.
If you don't know the Blues then you don't really know Rock and Roll. |

I enjoy the shadow of your smile by Tony Bennet and if I love you by Jo Stafford.
I also like Henri Mancini music, and, when no one is around, I play Civil War marching songs. |

There was once a music station on AM that played 40's and 50's music on the islands. It went away around 2001. I've missed it so. I have found another station on FM, not nearly as good, but the best I could find. They play 60's and 70's music.
When you hear the disk jocky say great times and good oldies, it doesn't help it much. I don't think 60's music is as old as they say it is. I just dislike the jolly or affected jolliness thay they must keep up. |

| Whatever your likes and tastes are, I'm sure that rap "music" is nothing like the type of music you play. It is different because of the violent and vulgar theme if nothing else. |

What song is it that is in Spainish where a man would translate in the interlude:
The words say ' I'm a truthful man from the land of the palm trees, and just before dying I want to share these palms of my soul. My palms are green; my palms are also flaming crimson. My palm is like a wounded fawn seeking refuge in the forest.' In the last words of p...p...p...the streams of the mountains pleases me more then the sea.
how does one spell it? it sounds like 'once on a mera' or even..... |

...or:
GUANTANAMERA
Original music by Jose Fernandez Diaz
Music adaptation by Pete Seeger & Julian Orbon
Lyric adaptation by Julian Orbon, based on a poem by Jose Marti
Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crecen las palmas
Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crecen las palmas
Y antes de morirme quiero
Echar mis versos del alma
Chorus:
Guantanamera
Guajira Guantanamera
Guantanamera
Guajira Guantanamera
Mi verso es de un verde claro
Y de un carmin encendido
Mi verso es de un verde claro
Y de un carmin encendido
Mi verso es un ciervo herido
Que busca en el monte amparo
Chorus
I am a truthful man from this land of palm trees
Before dying I want to share these poems of my soul
My verses are light green
But they are also flaming red
(the next verse says,)
I cultivate a rose in June and in January
For the sincere friend who gives me his hand
And for the cruel one who would tear out this
heart with which I live
I do not cultivate thistles nor nettles
I cultivate a white rose
Cultivo la rosa blanca
En junio como en enero
Qultivo la rosa blanca
En junio como en enero
Para el amigo sincero
Que me da su mano franca
Chorus
Y para el cruel que me arranca
El corazon con que vivo
Y para el cruel que me arranca
El corazon con que vivo
Cardo ni ortiga cultivo
Cultivo la rosa blanca
Chorus
Con los pobres de la tierra
Quiero yo mi suerte echar
Con los pobres de la tierra
Quiero yo mi suerte echar
El arroyo de la sierra
Me complace mas que el mar
Chorus

| Thanks, Caire, I was hoping to find the full song someday-- and one can't do so without knowing the title. |

There are some pieces that one cannot forget. They mean something to each of us. If one heard a certain song or piece during a crises or in a different world and time, it often stays in one's mind and reminds him of his experiences.
Think of Mat Munro's song:
They are so few, the precious moments.
They fade from view and when they do...
We try to live them anew.
from Precious Moments. |

I remember that tune. Nice, and it does like to stick in the head.
And one name jumped out at me. Pete Seeger. He's one of the trailblazers out there for the 60's rock scene. You'd do well to research his music if you want to learn the roots of rock music. |

I thought the name Pete Seeger might catch an eye or two here. :)
That chorus that "sticks in the head" is hidden beauty few ever find. Even very old men were once passionate young lovers. Our elderly Cuban gentleman who lives close to the earth sings to us of the simple things that give beauty and meaning to his life... but hides the verses of "flaming red" in which he repeats over and over his memories of a young lady of Guantanamo. Guantanamera
Guajira ... |

Speaking of old Latin party music, I always liked Herp Albert and the Tijuana Brass.
Fine old lounge music there. |

| I like big band/swing/jazz myself. It's relaxing to listen to, but it has a good beat. |
