OK..... this is a happiness based one. I rated it very-hard when I wrote it, but it is actually quite easy, especially in the replay. It should be a pleasure after the nasty one in the last contest.

It is a scenerio, so it goes in your tropico/maps folder.

We really need to have a "compression" lecture here.

Zip is soooooo old school.

Anywho, I just grabbed it. I must do better this time. Nobody ever remembers the second place finishers.

Zip? What is that? I just use the native compression in Windows. As a broadband user, I wouldnt bother zipping it at all, but the upload feature wouldnt know what to do with an MP2 file.... It might even think it is music and try to play it

Because the compression factor is far larger. Like a 30% bonus!

And because that program will open anything compressed.

Here's the write-up:

IZArc is the ultimate archive utility supports many archive formats like: 7-ZIP, A, ACE, ARC, ARJ, B64, BH, BIN, BZ2, BZA, C2D, CAB, CDI, CPIO, DEB, ENC, GCA, GZ, GZA, HA, IMG, ISO, JAR, LHA, LIB, LZH, MDF, MBF, MIM, NRG, PAK, PDI, PK3, RAR, RPM, TAR, TAZ, TBZ, TGZ, TZ, UUE, WAR, XXE, YZ1, Z, ZIP, ZOO. With a modern easy-to-use interface, IZArc provides support for most compressed and encoded files, as well as access to many powerful features and tools. It allows you to drag and drop files from and to Windows Explorer, create and extract archives directly in Windows Explorer, create multiple archives spanning disks, creating self-extracting archives, repair damaged zip archives, converting from one archive type to another, view and write comments and many more. IZArc has also build-in multilanguage support.
IZArc is the most complete archive utility available today.

I just took a 3.5 meg folder and went down to 700k with it.

We may not really need it for our little stuff here, but when you start compressing megs and gigs then it really shines.

Onto the scenario......

I've got to have a power plant and tv station going by 1966?!!!!

It can be done, but you really have to rethink this scenario in the beginning. Forget trying to make them all happy early on. You have to get an economy and heavy infrastructure going instead. Worry about the nerds later.

Btw, who are the nerds?

The intellectuals? The educated? Or some other group?

Well... the standard Windows compression compressed that scenerio from 539K to 105K. That is as good as your example (5:1).

Yes! That first event is a little shocker isnt it? It is actually quite easy if you time your startup correctly. Dont forget their happiness early on either.... or you will get the "pocket protector" warning when their respect-rating drops to 75. If it drops under 70 you are out.

The "nerds" number coerresponds to the list shown under "List of Intellectuals". Strangely enough, that list does not coerrespond to the number shown on the People/ListFactions/Intellectuals, which is what is being used to give the Nerds-Average-Respect number.

Ok, the game is pissing me off.

So the first time I get to 1985 and get the call for the movie house, I relax as I already have on. Nope, the nerds are mad I didn't build one.

Crap, I have no recent save and have to start over.

I'm ready in the next 1985 and as soon as I get the warning, I drop the contruction site for one and have plenty of men handy.

It gets done in time easily. I still get the nerds-are-mad note!

What's going on here?

You mean my old version is buggy?

Damn. I just spent another evening on a fresh install and a 3rd running of the scenario. And it did it again. :(

Ok, I hope it's fixed this time. :?

Holy crap, Batman! They trashed my cinema!

I certainly didn't see that one coming.

This scenario is a points monster too.

I just stopped for the night at year 1988 and have crossed 55k already!

Now I'm going to pile on the gimmees in the last two years and smoke that number. 8)

Good Job!

My best score was around 48K, but I was just testing... I had a few Unhappies at the end, because they started college and didnt like the lower income.

As for trashing the theatre... Don't build more than one, or they will trash them all ;)

They didn't trash it when it was rebuilt in my game.

You know, I could really start over one last time and really nail that score.......

Yeah... they only trash them once... 13-months after the warning.

Ok, so what happens if you fail to make the two scripted events?

I know they don't boot you off the island.

Is it a points hit or a respect hit?

Actually, how is this scenario scored? Is it just the current state of affairs or is there an annual component as well?

The two events cause a respect hit.... but it is pretty small because the Dictator traits overpower it -- for the Intellectuals at least.

The score is computed:

(10*happy_nerds + 3 * content_nerds - 10 * unhappy_nerds ) * Intellectual_respect.

Ok, so the goal is the endgame. Just keep myself about the 70 mark during the early part and shoot for the final score.

I have no trouble making money on this island. Coffee, tobacco, fruit, and tourism rock like crazy.

What I really need to do is pump up my population count and keep them happy.
