| Is El Prez's Home actually ever profitable? I used it like twice, and haven't since. |

If it breaks even then it's worth it in this scenario.
It provides entertainment to both citizens and tourists.
It has a footprint no larger than a pub.
And it gives a 20% bonus to respect.
This island has limited space and tight elections.
It might just be a good fit in this particular scenario if you build a high school.
Here's my latest game. |

As I'm apt to do with most scenarios, I play it through a couple times to get my bearings.
Then I like to abuse the scenario with the editor just for grins and perhaps get a new idea on how to tackle a regular run.
Most of the time I disregard these mods as there is usually too much tweaking to see what could be done in a regular game.
But this time I was so frustrated at the lack of space. Yes, I know that's the whole point of this challenge. So how would I go about modifying it in order to see some changes, but not lose the spirit of the original island. Adding land was out and most everything else was too flagrant to be considered (ie: gold deposit). Then I got an idea. What if I simply flattened the island?
What a shocking difference!
Look at this final score, will you? I doubled broomdalf's revenue and score!
Of course, this is not an entry for consideration.
Just an exercise in the theoretical. I was able to stuff 5 hotels in and get all of the lower level social services and enough housing to fit. No election was even close. My worst showing was 63% and didn't have to toss edicts at the elections.
Btw, I ran the Presidente home and was pleased with the results. It ran 20 years and made a modest $1500 in profit. That pretty much makes it pay for itself, including construction. And I had that lovely 20% respect bonus that helped me with those easy elections. And don't forget that it was a 3rd entertainment source for my peons. I fully intend to try it in a regular game once I get my high school up. |

Jeeeeees.... voted out in '69 again.... even with payraises, tax-cut, and food-for-the-people running...
I guess I need to get that church up quicker.... and maybe skipping the pub is a bad idea. I had a restaurant and a Presidential homestead going..... |

You need that pub. You need the Mardi Gras edict.
It may cost you the doctor and you'll have to replace him.
I will say that getting a cop station up early and putting that one soldier into the slot really lets you hold down crime. He seems to cover the island pretty well. |

Arrrrrrrggggghhhh.....
This time I made through the 69 election by a whisker, but I had to adjust the 76 one. Shortly after that I did a Junta-Joe relocation, which the soldiers were not happy about.... The election cheating made them mad enough, but the relocation really ticked them off.... even though they ended up in the best houses. Both soldiers tried a coup, so I opened all the other two soldier slots... The incoming soldiers defeated the traitors.... but one of the new ones became a rebel in the next year.
Right after that, my 4 fisherman piers proved to be too little food and my people started starving.... I had to call-off the 1983 election because everyone hated me, after which my economy tanked. I ended up shutting off the game in disgust in about 1987, with a score running more and more negative by the minute...... |

| This is one scenario that I'd never have a soldier in. |

Half way through april and I haven't even played this game through once..
It seems most challenging and that's usually good but I might just be sitting out this competition entirely.
Wifey's "honey do" list is eating my spare time like never before. :( |

| Yep, I need to quit toying with the controls and possibilities and map myself a solid game plan to knock this one out. |

Finally hit that link. I know what you mean!
Ok, the game is supposed to run until the end of April. That's tomorrow.
Let's run it through Sunday and let any last minute tries have the whole weekend.
Currently, broomdalf leads with 923.
And we still haven't seen anyone pipe up with a new game submission for the next contest.
Might have to rummage in Brf's unused pile.......
Pm me if you want to submit a scenario for the contest. |

| I have my "Nerds" scenerio.... happiness based... keep the intellectuals happy. I will run that a few times today and remind myself how it runs and see if it needs anymore scripts. |

Argggggh.
I squeezed this one like crazy and just couldn't get over broomdalf.
I also think that roads do count in your score.
My buildings value shot way up when I started paving everything.
Anywho, this score is my best. |

I'm going to tentatively declare broomdalf the winner as there is only 4 hours left before midnight on the left coast.
So estio has one last shot.
I can honestly say that island was hard.
Brf says he's got another scenario in the wings, but I'd like to see some people working on new scenarios for the mid June game.
We'll get the game winner ribbons rolling soon and I'm keeping track of who rates one.
So we'll start the new game as soon as Brf feels ready to post it. With the start of the workweek here, let's give him a couple days if he needs to get it together before posting. |
