So just wondering, has anybody seen the first Atlas Shrugged movie?
I knew one was being made, but never realized it had come out ... makes sense that it wouldn't be promoted much in the current world.
I'm just wondering how well they've done on sticking to the real meaning of the story ... have they stayed true to it (explaining why I never even knew it was released), or have they pulled a fast one and warped everything to fit modern 'sensibilities?'
I'll have to find a way to find this and watch it, and see how true they've been. |

Yeah, I missed it in theaters too, but part of that was Hollywood trying to stomp all over it. Individual reviews say it was a pretty good movie, though it was a shoestring budget. They made with mixed financing for just 15 million. Theaters barely showed it and not for very long. It only took in several million at the box office. So far it is a bust financially. It didn't help that all the professional reviewers said it was completely horrible. Yeah, no bias there, right?
The key will be dvd sales, though I don't know when it comes out.
I'll go buy it at full price simply to support it. That's a rarity for me as I buy movies after they have been out long enough to be discounted a lot.
This movie is supposed to have three parts and it is not episodic. So unless they make enough on this one and the next one we may not get to see the ending. The first was supposedly fast paced to try to keep up roughly with the book, so there's likely no way they could settle for simply cramming the rest of it into one more episode.
I'm kind of disappointed I didn't go pay the ticket price because I think it is important for this to make enough money to get finished.
Given the storyline about making success happen from simply the fruits of your labor seems like it would be too ironic if it didn't get finished. Kind of wish someone famous would give it a boost too. This would be a great time for Mel Gibson to step up and help with financing and promotion.
For some interesting reading you can watch the Amazon placeholder site for theater reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Atlas-Shrugged-Part-Taylor-Schilling/dp/B004Z29XAC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311407917&sr=8-3 |

Amazon doesn't say and neither does the wiki.
Btw, here's the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_Shrugged:_Part_I |

I did a little news searching, and the latest I found was that the DVD would be coming out in September, and that, contrary to earlier thoughts of going 'on strike' after all the negative reviews from the professional reviewers, the producer was planning on moving forward with the second movie.
So things aren't dead, yet. |

| Good. So save your nickels for the DVD since it looks like they will need the money. |

Had a chance to see this today, and I was quite satisfied with the job they did.
This section of the story dealt with the creation of the John Galt line, the fight to get it in existence, and the search for the new engine, ending with Wyatt's destruction of his oil fields, and disappearing.
Yes, they moved the story into the future, about five years, as I remember, but overall the story still worked just fine, and I really was quite impressed with the job they did, overall. |
