.......are going away!
Yep, they are. But not for a while. Staffers have pointed out that they only denote the past or other sites. Their role here is dubious. They were carried over from LS and I continued the tradition without thinking it out. Their original purpose was only to lure groups of people over to LS in hopes of getting their own ribbon. While I do intend to get broader exposure for this forum, we have better tools for that since we own our website fully now. So now the membership ribbons are just pretty sig area fillers.
Ribbons should be more than just showing up.
So we will implement a changeover at the forum's first anniversary.
The APSR, NSA, and Castle Doom ribbons will become participatory ribbons and the rest will disappear. The Castle Doom ribbon will become a true posting ribbon for rising to the rank of Groomer in order to get newcomers to post enough to become part of the converstation. The APSR will follow its old criteria and simply be inserted into Participation for convenience. The NSA is actually now a participation style ribbon since you have to be an active member of NationStates to get it. It will be left in the membership area until the change occurs.
And a new ribbon will be made that will be a bit different. The various colors of the lost ribbons will be placed on a single ribbon unique for each member to signify our past travels.
The shedding of 5 ribbons will reduce the overall bulk of most of our sigs. |

Joe,
Your board, your choice ... and it isn't a decision that will make or break my enjoyment of the board ... but I kind of like the history aspect of the membership ribbons!
Just my input. :D |

The time table has been moved up to the end of summer.
With all the new members coming from the E2025 site, we were looking at facing a ribbon introduction that lasted a mere six months. Instead we will simply have a lopsided situation for 3 months while we sort out our planning.
We are still thinking about how we intend to replace those ribbons. Rest assured that something will be done to mark your past memberships. An E2025 marker will be added as well. |

For what it's worth, I like the historic aspect as well.
Don't go phasing stuff out on our account.
I can't speak for the others, but I don't insist on an Earth ribbon. I kind of liked that the new members didn't necessarily know who was from Earth, considering we're not all from the same clan.
Here's a thought about that... maybe a "TWG refugee" (or something of the sort) ribbon instead? It comes out to the same thing in the end, but focuses on a different aspect; what brought us here together, as opposed to what is—in some cases—a dividing factor. |

| The plan was to phase out the old membership ribbons in a few months. We will probably give the TWG players a Game-Event ribbon. |

It was happening anyway, Muji.
Your group just set the spin a bit faster.
The membership ribbons were making ribbon bars huge. Note mine for instance. I have all the current ones. And it can be rather intimidating to newcomers who note they can never work hard enough and achieve some parity.
The new emphasis will be on participation and achievement.
It will be a more merit based system than a legacy system.
We want members to know that their hard efforts will make them as recognized as an old timer no matter when they actually arrive.
And with our plan to make a marker system for past memberships, no one will be losing anything but the gaudy size. |

Hey!
I stopped by Phaorhoe's Forum two or three times ... doesn't that count for anything? |

I could use a bunch more of those!
On a more serious note...are the new "ribbons" going to be kind of like a ticker with different colored stripes to represent the various awards? A simple .gif bar with different colored stripes on it would be compact and easy to edit. |
