There has been an extraordinary amount of recent attention lumped onto the Armenian Genocide thanks to our good friend Nancy Pelosi and the newest non-binding resolution from Congress.
Let me state right now, that I am Armenian and I do know that what happened in Armenia under the Ottoman Turks was in fact genocide, but Frankly at this point, I wonder what good it does to recognize it as a genocide. This genocide occurred mostly in 1915 and was extremely tragic, but to destroy our relations with modern Turkey in order to prove a point that should have been made in 1915 is outrageous.
Not only did these events unfold nearly a century ago, they unfolded in an Empire that no longer exists. Therefore I wish to propose that the United States Congress condemn the Austro-Hungarian Empires 1914 ultimatum to Serbia which helped to spark WWI.

| I think it's partially so the turks can't insist on ti being taught as anything other than genocide, i think. other than that, trying to ensure it doesn't happen again, and for historical accuracy. I agree though, just ask turkey to recognise it as genocide and leave it at that. after 92, nearly 93 years, give up. it's old enough that it's on the edge of living memory, so it really needs to be consigned to history. the only mention of the issue should be one line in history textbooks: However, the modern nation of Turkey refuses to recognise it as genocide, saying it was a legitimate act of war ( or whatever the turkish excuse is) as of the time when this book was published. |
