With the new upload feature, we can now have Tropico contests.

We will use the old format of a month long contest.

February will be the first.

Now I can give you one unless someone is chomping at the bit to do theirs.

Just holler if you want to use yours.

Otherwise I'll put one up Feb 1.

It will be expected that you can use everything from the expansion pack as well.

I will also begin searching the internet for ready made scenarios that don't come with the game or expansion pack. I will make a sticky thread and begin a database of sorts here.

Fair enough.

I was sort of hoping for some kind of comment from the membership.

You know, a little entusiasm would be nice, folks.

Ok, I'll crank one out this weekend as soon as I make it and remember how to generate the zipped upload on my new zip program.

It won't be anything fancy. Just a difficult island to get everyone back in practice.

Perhaps a steep island with a shorter time limit. As most mountain islands are lousy tourist sites and have slow tree crops, it takes time to generate a big economy. And I'll make sure to limit minerals as well.

Alright folks, the contest is on.

So let's talk about the future.

I was hoping to get the membership to take some interest in making monthly challenges as well. Perhaps every other month for a while until we get the popularity back up. I'll grab the other months and run the details. Now one person I don't want to see crank any out for a while is Brf. I've been keeping him busy for a couple months and he's got the rpg going too. Time for him to enjoy the forum too.

So I'm hoping the rest of you try your hand at making one island. If 3 or 4 of you crank just one out and I match you then we'll have plenty until next Xmas.

Now I'll start making some more maps, but having only one maker tends to make the games seem the same after a while. Diverse minds keep the challenge and entertainment level up.

Sometime soon, I'll import all the old maps I can find and perhaps run an oldies contest as well from some of the primo oldies.

So break out your crayons, class, and try your hand at making a map. Don't forget we have the finest Tropico tutorials on the web to get you up to speed.

Hmmm.... I had to wash my Tropico CD. It was crashing at game-end, whether I won or lost. When I tried to browse to the Movies folder on the CD it crashed Windows too.... After I washed it, it is working fine 8)

Hmmm, old scenario about to end and time for another.

I'll probably be lazy again and not generate a complete scenario.

I'm thinking of putting up a classic for competition that was a difficult one.

Mount Succio?

Another?

Say, when is someone other than Brf going to put up an idea? :?

It's a short month with me extending the old contest.

So we'll run yours in April.

I'll decide both the winner of the February contest and the old scenario for the last 3 weeks of March on Friday.

I'm open to opinions on picking a classic scenario though.

And for the rest of you, I hope you open up the tools and try to make a homemade scenario for the May contest.

Hurry folks, I'm winning this February contest after only one time through really. I had one abortive start of 5 years when I saw my scheme taking too long. The next game was the one I posted. My strategy was purely in the layout and timing. Surely someone can give me a run for my money with a couple trips through.

I'm having second thoughts......

No one can seem to catch me.

Perhaps I should extend the deadline again to next weekend and then let Brf run his scenario until the end of April.

Note my shifting of expected time limits. I had planned to run monthly contests. That would be 12 contest winners a year compared to around 2 or 3 in the rpg's. Maybe running Tropico scenarios for 6 weeks and reducing the number of winners per year to 8 might be more equitable. It would make those ribbons a bit more valuable.

Opinions?

I am playtesting a map... no events or anything, but it is a nasty....

Here you see a snapshot of my best score, and what my score looked like the entire game. I ended up with a negative score.... my best so far, since it is the first time I finished the game.

Tweak it and we can start it next Saturday.

I dunno if it needs tweaking.... unless you can think of some good events for it.... here is a picture of the starting map. I call it String of Pearls.

As you can see... the hardest thing is the space limitations....

I dont remember....

I think Political and Economic were both one-notch below the top....

Farmer, elected as Capitalist, Hardworking, Entrepreneurial, Coward, Gambler.

I couldnt have set political too high... because the complaints for school and church dont come until halfway through the game..... but, on the other hand, the elections are quite nasty. That "Best Score" you see is just before I fixed an election. I had a real tough time winning the first two and had to fix the third.

Mucho Macho includes Paradise Isle and can be bought for like $10 now.... You might be able to run some of these with the original game, as long as they dont start with any new buildings. You might have a disadvantage to the other players though.
