My names' Crispy, and this be my tale:
I am a freshman in some college on the East Coast somewhere. I've probably said enough stuff that you can probably find me out, but allow me my slight paranoia, please. I'm so far a pre-med student (following family tradition) and it's a LOT of work. Sadly enough I may be looking for another line of work as soon as my grades come in, but I am enjoying myself.
I came here because of Broomdalf, my best friend. I've been hanging around him for...7 years now, and all we've done is got that much crazier.
My interests are...spending way too much time playing Runescape and just about every other game under the sun, a good scifi/fantasy book, ballroom dancing (though I suck at it), and movies and music. My goal in life is to get more stories (why bother if it's not entertaining?) and become as close to a Jack-of-all-Trades as humanly possible. Oh, that and start a brewery with Broom.

One of these days I will be on time for all my classes. The fabric of reality will be torn asunder, and civilization will last long enough for a collective "WTF?!" before ceasing to exist.
Also, bio labs is a mental version of a shotgun to the temple. And that's just the class. The homework is worse.

Got some help on the bio labs. I love being friends with people who are smarter than me in stuff.
On a somewhat-related note, I hate it when people I dislike prove they are better than me at stuff on a regular basis. I'm being demonstratably out-chemistried (not my favorite subject) by someone with a SLIGHTLY better grasp of the material. Now I feel the need to study more, not for the grade, but to outdo the smartass. Dammit.

Fire alarm at 3 am. Beginning to suspect all the freshmen jokes have some basis in reality.
I hate idiots who can't read the instructions on MICROWAVEABLE POPCORN with a loathing passion. Here are people our society thinks are adults, responsible for themselves and ready to make their mark on the world. And they can't make popcorn without setting off the alarms at 3 in the morning. And this is a generation that sometime very soon will move to prominence, a generation that will soon write history. A generation that will be next in line of a million generations of humanity and, God forgiving our stupidities, surviving so that it is not the last. And all I can think about my fellow classmates is that, despite sympathy, empathy or any other feeling towards my fellow man, there are days that I wish Atlas shrugged.

mmm four day weekend. I'm about as mellow as I can get. Tomorrow starts the stress (fun with anatomy quizzes in bio labs), but I'm pretty damn content right now.

as of yesterday, my college gets a big WTF?!, along with much yelling and choice expletives for its schedual: Tuesdays and Thursdays are slightly skewed FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. Every other day I have a class at 1:30. Tuesday and Thursday I have a class at 1. I might fail said class at 1 thanks to thinking it was at 1:30!

It is a sad day when your college has their Theatre geeks put on a performance of Shakespere that they ADMIT THEY EDITED. In my mind, there is something DEFINITELY wrong with that. While Shakespere's works were meant as common entertainment, I still think any "modern" translation loses something. I love his plays, but it looks like I'll be skipping this one  .

Took a mental health day today. Didn't really feel too much better. I guess that's a sign of me maturing. And apparently I missed some major review session too :( . I'm in a bit of a fix grade-wise, to the point that after this semester I'll probably change majors. Meh. Other then that, life is pretty good. Kari and Grant from Mythbusters will be at my college tomorrow, and I have break in a week, so life isn't a total bust.

Another fire drill, this time at 2 in the morning. I really should post here more often, and less about the firedrills. In other news, my gaming club got shafted by the bastards of the budget committee, so we're $2k in the red. Also, this is the start of 9 days of break for me. I'd call this a poor start to a weekend.

I tried to leave for break, but got shafted by NorthWest. I arrived 50 minutes early and was informed that since I was not an HOUR early, my seat was taken for the overbooked flight. Explaining this took the following steps:
1) Asshat check-in lady said the flight was overbooked, gave me number to call for rebooking
2) Rebooking lady said I was confirmed on the flight and should still be able to leave
3) Asshat check-in lady explains in very small words what "overbooked" means. I start seeing her as Miss Piggy, but with no cheerfulness and double the dominatrix aspect.
4) ANOTHER rebooking lady says that it is the check-in ladies' responsibility to book me to another flight
5) Asshat check-in lady is distracted by angry foreigners while a nicer check-in lady calls the rebooking people. Flight is changed.
After all of this, I overheard Asshat check-in Lady complaining that this was "the worst day of her life". I was tempted to point out that she works in an industry that cannot keep itself afloat, and depends on government aid. This system worsens every year, and will only heal itself if said government aid is taken away and the market allowed to do what is needed, mainly allowing competition to eliminate the incompetant buissness models. In short, it would be better for the country if she lost her job. Then I remembered that she had my name and could probably put me down as a suspected terrorist or something.
I hope I never have to fly NW again.

Tonight I danced with a good friend of mine, whom I only got to see for a few hours, as we have/had conflicting breaks. Mine is ending while hers is beginning. I wish they didn't conflict so badly ,but I'll take what I can get: A beautiful ending to quite a good week.

In other news...
1) Yep, another fire drill happened Saturday morning, around 4. Just when I was getting to the good part of 'Enter the Dragon'! I hope they catch the bastard(s) that are doing this. Screwing around with peoples lives on the line shouldn't be funny.
2) I wasn't around to post in TWG Sunday as my grandmother almost died. Shes alright, but we had one helluva scare. That she's ok shows that I still have a lot to be thankful for.

Another update for y'all. I screwed up a bit and had to drop a few classes. Pre-med-wise, I'm told I'm not TOTALLY screwed, but I'm well on the way to it. That and my hatred of all things calculus/chemistry makes me think of changing directions. I'll be getting a History major out of all of this (useful, ain't it?), so I have enough electives to take next year and persue another potential direction: writing. I've read so much sci-fi and fantasy, making a living writing it would be one of the few things I could see myself truly enjoying (the others being medicine, learning random things and maybe running a brewery with Broomdalf). We'll see what happens.
Turns out one of my friends is a lapsed Mormon. She kinda freaked out when I found out (she was using her old seminary binder for school, and didn't remove the Morma-literature), which I really found kinda saddening. Its interesting that she (and quite a few other LDS folk I know) think of their religion as a bit of a social stigma. Faith should be something to shout from the rooftops, not hide in any way, shape or form.
In other news, my life got all sorts of complicated today. I can't say much, but I'll give you the whole story down the road when the positive/negative effects show themselves.

Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated-Mark Twain
No, Aries, I go to school in NEW YORK, not Virginia Tech. I'm quite alive, and somewhat pissed after the events there. (For those of you who don't know, a student there just got the record for Worst School Massacre in American History). Not only is it a terrible waste, but those vultures who would take advantage of it have already descended to feed. Those who would take away our guns and our video games (especially Jack Thompson, beloved by all who hate what they do not understand) have already started to feed. Lets hope they don't get another bite of our freedom from this travesty. |

A note for all present and future debate discussions: I am a pseudointellectualist punk. In the immortal words of Kansas (Carry on Wayward Son, to be specific) "If I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don't know". So standard Grain of Salt rules apply. But all of you already knew that and I'm just doing this to appease my conscience.
Anywho, life is pretty good, for the moment. Finals are coming up, and I'm going to be studying for the next 5 days or so, after which I should be FREE *FF7 victory music*. I'll be going home soon, meaning 3 months of slacking off, but 3 months away from my girlfriend. Resuming that relationship will be...interesting, but prolific use of AIM should help.

Finals are done, and life is...meh. GF broke up with me, as a result of a bunch of issues, mainly a fear of commitment. It was fun while it lasted, but she...has issues (like I should talk :) ). I'm kinda sad at leaving one bunch of friends behind, some of whom I'm not going to see much of any more (met a lot of really cool seniors this year, who have now graduated). The good side to this is I'll be seeing my old friends again. And not working. W00t.

Sorry I haven't been around, ladies and gents. I've been enjoying myself reading, playing video games, and brewing. I think I'll be on a bit more often once school constricts my life again. A list of what I've been reading will be forthcoming, eventually.

As Mark Twain once said, reports of my death are greatly exaggerated. Yes, ladies and gents (all one of you who read this), I'm still alive. I just started another year at Hogwarts college and things so far are looking pretty good. I'm liking my teachers (for once), and my classes are looking to be interesting. After a slight fiasco with moving into campus housing, I'll be living with a friend of mine in a house that his family owns. I know I'll eat these words at some point or other, but it's looking to be a fun year. Now if I can only get that 3.75...

Ah, I love the fact that ResLife is out to get me. I put in my form to leave campus housing, and told them I wasn't going to be leaving until the end of the week or so. They told me not to worry about it. Yesterday, after classes, I try to open the outside door to my dorm building with my swipecard. It doesn't work. After an hour of running around to various people who (in theory) could fix the problem, I learn 3 things:
1) My access has been removed. The procedure is to wait until the person turns in their room key before removing access. I did not turn in my room key. SOMEBODY removed the access.
2) The person who normally does such was involved in an...extended dispute between me and my roomates last year. It was not pretty. Interesting that she chooses to inconvenience me when she has the chance.
and
3) Security around any building where people are constantly coming and going is a joke. People will tend to hold a door for others, even if that person clearly doesn't have access. It'd be interesting to see how this works out in the real world, but I'd rather not be harassed for trespassing. Again.
